Naomi Celeste Farthing Satterfield

Early on Sunday morning, October 22, 2023, Naomi took the hand of her precious Savior and joined Jesus in her eternal home. There was surely a joyous celebration as she was reunited with her beloved husband, Clifton Satterfield, her parents, Paul and Helen Farthing, and her first born son, Steve Satterfield.

In Naomi’s youth, she enjoyed playing high school basketball. Then also began her love for music and playing the piano. She graduated from Averett College, began her career at South Boston Bank & Trust Co., and later retired from Bank of America. She was a faithful member of Dan River Baptist Church where she was the pianist for many years before moving to Blairs, VA in 1997 to take care of her mother. Naomi then joined Blairs Baptist Church where she enjoyed continuing her love for worship, playing the piano and organ for almost 20 years.

Anyone who sat at Naomi’s table could be sure there would be plenty of choices… chicken casserole, strawberry pretzel “salad”, and pistachio “salad” were always a guarantee, and her grandchildren were never denied a tasty treat! She kept her piano in the back, where many beautiful songs were played, and she was always glad to hear her grandchildren try, no matter how great.

Naomi was known for her gentle spirit. She was full of laughter and joy. She loved her family so much and enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her son David (Luci) Satterfield of Danville, VA   and her Daughter-In-Law Dorothy Satterfield of Halifax, VA. Naomi is also survived by her grandchildren Holly Satterfield Eskey (Chandler) of Dry Fork, VA, Mark Satterfield of Danville, VA, Amanda Hartman (Brad) of Danville, VA, Joshua Luffman of Chatham, VA, Brian Satterfield of Halifax, VA, Karen Hawley of South Boston, VA,  Ann  Claire Green (Jeff) of Raleigh, NC, and Daniel McDonald (Catherine Clardy) of South Boston.

Naomi’s life was spent loving God, family, church, and music. She will be missed dearly, but those who believe in Jesus as their Savior will see her again one day.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 “And now, dear brothers, I want you to know what happens to a Christian when he dies so that when it happens, you will not be full of sorrow, as those are who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and then came back to life again, we can also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him all the Christians who have died.”

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023 2:00 P.M. at Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. John Lester officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living for the kindness, care and friendship given to Naomi.
