Patrick Edward Coughlin

Mr. Patrick Edward Coughlin of South Boston, VA passed away Friday, June 4, 2021 at his home. He was born April 18, 1941 in Herkimer, NY and was 80 years old. He was the son of the late Louis Coughlin and Wanda C. Coughlin and was married for 28 years to Karen Howell Coughlin who survives. He was a twenty-year veteran of the US Navy and afterwards was a US Government Defense Contractor for over twenty years. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. He kept his US patriotism first in his priorities. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a lifetime member of VFW Post 392 in Virginia Beach, American Legion Post 8, and was a member of the Southside Master Gardeners Association. Survivors include: His wife of 28 years Karen Howell Coughlin of South Boston One daughter Susan E. Serato and husband Joe of San Antonio, TX Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Donald Durham and wife Kathy of Eden, NC Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Bill Finney and wife Debbie of Eden, NC Seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter Numerous nieces and nephews He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cathleen M. Coughlin and a grandson, Brandon L. Hill. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Garrett Bowman, Rev. Susan Davis, and Rev. Dr. Dava Hensley officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 8. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at his home.
