Philip Davis Hollis

Philip Davis Hollis, of Halifax, passed away on May 24, 2025, at the age of 87. Mr. Hollis was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on May 19, 1938 to the late Earl and Eleanor Hollis. He actively served in the United States Army from 1959-1962. Mr. Hollis graduated from Bentley College in 1964 and moved to Greensboro, N.C. to work with Burlington Industries. He met his wife, of 59 years, Carole Kay Shreve Hollis while working in Greensboro. Shortly after, they moved to Halifax County, with Burlington Industries. He later joined Daystrom Furniture, where he remained until the plant closed.

Over the years, Mr. Hollis served in many different capacities in the community. He served on the Halifax Town Council 2004-2008, and on the boards of United Way and Habitat for Humanity. He was an active member of Halifax United Methodist Church where he served his church as their treasurer, choir member, and member of Men’s Club.  He enjoyed collecting coins, fishing, beach trips to Topsail Island, and most of all being with his family.

Philip Davis Hollis leaves behind; his wife, Carole, and two children: William Keith Joyce (Carol) of Mechanicsville, and Kanette Webster Hollis of South Boston. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Ellen Joyce Steel (Billy), Kevin Davis Joyce, Anna Ray Joyce, Austin Philip Vaughan, and Parker Theodore Vaughan, along with two great granddaughters: Charlotte and Violet. His brother Kenneth Hollis (Nancy) of New Hampshire survives as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Halifax United Methodist Church on Saturday May 31, 2025 at 2:00. The family will receive visitors directly after the service, in the fellowship hall. A private entombment service will follow.
