Philip Addison Satterfield

Philip Addison Satterfield of South Boston, VA passed away October 11th, 2020. Born on September 1, 1926, he was the son of the late Edward Fleming Satterfield and the late Rosa Rottler Satterfield.

Philip graduated from Turbeville High School and attended the College of William and Mary. He left William and Mary to serve in the United States Army as a paratrooper in World War II.

A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Philip served as a lay leader at numerous churches throughout Halifax County.  His career spanned 57 years in the tobacco industry, working as a ticket marker on the tobacco auction sale. He worked at markets in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Kentucky and treasured the friends he made in his travels.

An avid golfer into his eighties, Philip loved all sports. He coached the 1964 Halifax County Dixie Youth Baseball Championship team that went to the World Series. He also cherished the time he spent hunting quail with his son, Tom and their beloved dogs, Buzz and Spot.

Mr. Satterfield is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Wray “Dink” Satterfield, a daughter, Pamela Satterfield Berry and her husband Skip of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are his two grandsons Harry Anderson Berry, IV (Kathryn) of Wilmington, NC and Philip Addison Satterfield Berry of Chicago, IL.

The family is grateful for Rosa Lee Newton Eades, his caretaker for three years.

Burial will be private.
