Richard Sam Hailey

Richard Sam Hailey of South Boston, VA passed away on August 31, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family. He was a vibrant 73 years young whose loves included working on antique cars (or anything with an engine), attending car shows, playing with his grandchildren, and walking his dog, Bella. Richard worked at ABB for 42 years and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed any mechanical work.

His loss is greatly felt by his wife of 54 years Linda, his son Scott and wife Kate with grandchildren Graham, Meredith, and Caroline as well as his daughter Jill and grandcat Popeye.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Burley and Sam, his brothers Roy and Dewey, and sisters, Janie, Virginia, and Myrtle.

He is survived by his sisters: Zadie, Dolly Mae, Margaret, and Frances.

A celebration of life will occur at Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 7 at 2pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For everyone’s safety we request that you please wear a mask during the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations to the American Heart Association.
