Richard (Ricky) Hartley Pool met Jesus face to face on November 5, 2022. He was born on August 4, 1957 and was the son of the late Arthur Frazier Pool and Lottie Watts Pool. He is survived by his wife Ruth Pool, and her son Toby Payne (Tara) and their children, Emma, Allie and Will, and son Daniel Payne (Kelly) and their children, Aidan, Luke and Noah. He loved all of them like they were his children and grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings, Susan Pool (Angie), Darryl Pool (Judy) and Jane Watts (Mike), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special aunt Carrie Pool and uncle Otis Pool (Arlene). Also surviving are his sister-in laws, Nancy Eckert, Linda Deere and Dana Sheldon.
Ricky was a retired tobacco buyer with R.J. Reynolds. He traveled the world with his job and he never met a stranger. He was the life of the party and he had a gift of gab and the ability to tell a story that was unmatched. He loved cows. He loved growing grass. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish and was a great steward of the land. But most of all, he loved his community and his family, and he was generous to a fault.
He was a member of Cherry Hill UMC, the Hyco Road Ruritan Club, and a founding member of the Halifax County Cattlemen’s Association. He had a passion for these organizations and led many fund raisers to help further their reach into the community with scholarships and outreach programs.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at 11:00 am at Shady Grove UMC, in the Fellowship Hall, located at 8007 E. Hyco Rd. Virgilina,VA. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at his home.
For memorials, please consider donations to the Hyco Road Ruritan Club (Frazier Pool scholarship fund), c/o Wayne Bowen, 3149 Rip Rap Rd., Virgilina, VA 24598 or the Halifax County Cattlemen’s Association (scholarship fund), P.O.
