Ronald "Bailey" Crews of Scottsburg Va. passed away on July 19, 2023. He was born in Halifax County on August 22, 1936 to the late Alonza Merritt Crews, Sr. and the late Grace Rickmon Crews. He was 86 years old. He was married for 64 years to his loving and devoted wife Frances Smith Crews.

Bailey was an active member of Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church where he was a choir member and sang in a gospel quartet. He enjoyed singing and sang in different choirs throughout his life starting when he was 15 years old. He enjoyed gospel, country and bluegrass music and often attended live performances.

Bailey was a retired manager from Daystrom Furniture Co. He was a charter member of Mt. Laurel Ruritan Club, a former member of Scottsburg Fire Department, and previously a member on the Scottsburg Town Council

Bailey loved telling stories and talking about life in Halifax County. He enjoyed having a large vegetable garden and mowing his yard. He loved the sport of baseball and played in county leagues when he was younger, coached, and would often stop to watch any baseball game nearby.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Frances Smith Crews; children, Pam Crews Sides (Tom) of Chesapeake, VA and Dwight Edward Crews (Christen) of Midlothian VA; grandchildren Katie Sides Collier (Grant) of Chesapeake, VA, Rachel Elizabeth Sides of Richmond, VA and Henry Crews of Midlothian, VA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers A. M. Crews Jr. of Nathalie, VA, Nelson Crews of Clover, VA., Wayne Crews of Richmond, VA and sister Bernice Long of Denniston, VA.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 31, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Moreno officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
