Sherwood Dean Forlines of Scottsburg passed away on February 15, 2026 at the age of 74. He was born in Halifax County on January 11, 1952 to the late Garland Edward Forlines and Edith Wilkins Forlines. He was married for fifty-three years to Sheila C. Forlines who survives.

He was a retired K-9 Officer with the Virginia Department of Corrections. Sherwood enjoyed watching baseball games, watching western movies and was a great cook, but he loved his family especially his grandchildren. His passing will leave a void to all who knew him.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Shannon Forlines of South Boston, Jason Edward Forlines (Carolyn) of Scottsburg; five grandchildren, Allison Forlines, Jade Spence (Tommy), Carly Forlines, Camdyn Chapell and Haddy Forlines; five great grandchildren, Rylan, Layla, Greyson, Hayden and Brady; siblings, Stuart Forlines (Lisa) of South Boston, Shirley Elliott (Owen) of Henderson, NC.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home.
