Thelma Arlene Perkins Daniel of South Boston, VA passed away on March 30, 2026. She was born in Halifax County, VA on October 15, 1930, and was 95 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Ethel Emma Dunaway Perkins and the late Robert Isaac Perkins. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Martin Franklin Daniel.
Thelma loved to have all of her family and friends together for various occasions and especially at the holidays. She was the mastermind behind the Halloween parties, cookouts during the summer, the huge Thanksgiving down on the Daniel farm and the feast at her house. Christmas Eve was special for Thelma as she loved to have “Santa” show up to deliver gifts to everyone and especially to hand out the gag gifts she had rigged up for everyone during the year. She was also known to send greeting cards for Christmas, birthdays, sicknesses, and bereavements to everyone she knew. There was always a special note she had written inside or a clipping from a newspaper that she had cut out. She made it a point to visit acquaintances in the hospital and nursing homes.
Thelma had a knack for writing stories/journaling. She has many, many stories written that chronical her family’s life and some of the hilarious things that happened over the years. She loved talking about the early days and the family’s genealogy.
Thelma was a member of Mt. Cana Methodist Church for most of her life and sang in the church choir. All who attended were a very important part of her life. Her church family meant so much to her. Thelma worked at JP Steven’s and later at First Federal in South Boston where she made many friends at both. After she retired, she found great joy in watching Duke Basketball and she enjoyed her life and was always caring for her family.
Thelma Arlene Perkins Daniel is survived by: her son, Martin F. Daniel, Jr of Durham; siblings, Mary L. Redd of South Boston, and Earl A. Perkins of South Boston; Sister-in-law: Margaret S.
