Thomas Reginald Crews

Mr. Thomas Reginald “Tom” Crews of South Boston, VA passed away in Durham, NC on Friday, December 15, 2023.  He was born in Campbell County, VA on October 27, 1935 and was 88 years old.  He was the son of the late Meade Crews and the late Dorothy Crews and was married for over 66 years to Joanne Wade Crews. He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a member of the mission team.

 He served 6 years on the State Board of Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia and faithfully served on the committee that interviewed and approved new church planters in the state of Virginia.  He actively helped start new Southern Baptist churches in Connecticut and Virginia.  He helped with new construction and renovations of the new church plants throughout the state of Virginia.  After working in the Southern Baptist soup kitchen in New York City during the 9/11 aftermath, he was instrumental in starting the Disaster Relief program at Grace Baptist Church.  He would go on to participate in weekly trips to areas hit by major hurricanes, helping to rebuild peoples’ homes who had lost everything from the storms. He served faithfully as a Deacon at every church that he was a member of and was a faithful choir member and a soul winner for Jesus Christ.  Tom was a strong supporter of Gideons International.  He proudly served his county in the United States Army.  Spending time with his family was important to him.  The simple things in life were his focus such as cooking burgers on the grill, cooking a country ham, oyster stew, and all the fresh vegetables that his garden could produce.  Tom’s main focus in life was to serve the Lord.

A funeral service will be held at Grace Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jack Stewart conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  A visitation will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the graveside committal.
