Virginia Ann "Jenny" Powell Mays Vestal

Virginia Ann “Jenny” Powell Mays Vestal of Hayesville, NC passed away on November 12, 2025 at the age of 66. She was born in Halifax County, VA on November 20, 1958 to the late Herbert Lester Powell, Sr. and the late Shirley Ann Burton Powell. She was married to Roger Keith Vestal who survives.

She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Timberlake, NC. Jenny loved seeing the beauty in life and capturing that beauty in her paintings. She loved gardening, crafts, quilting, cooking and especially preparing food for beloved family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of twenty-three years, Roger Keith Vestal; one daughter, Rebekah Mays Pierce and husband Clifton of Raleigh, NC; one granddaughter, Aya Mays-Pierce of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Mary Jane Hampton of Rutherfordton, NC; brother-in-law, Randy Vestal of Yanceyville, NC; host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Lester “Les” Powell, Jr. and Anthony Powell.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the Vestal Family Cemetery at 4253 NC Hwy 86 S. in Yanceyville, NC with the Rev. David Chambers officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home, 4253 NC Hwy 86 South, Yanceyville, NC.
